Hey there! As a Dallas-based family photographer, I have the joy of capturing families in some of the most beautiful, diverse spots this area has to offer. Whether you're looking for something urban and modern, or more natural and serene, Dallas has it all.

Since most people typically aren't driving around the Dallas looking for the perfect place to take their Dallas family pictures, the first, and most common question I get asked is: "What are the best places to take family pictures near me?"

Over the years, I've had the privilege of photographing families in a variety of locations, and I wanted to share the top 6 spots I always recommend for the best family photos.

Each of these locations has its own unique charm and vibe, which is why I love offering them to families. Whether you’re aiming for an urban edge, a serene lakeside scene, or a rustic barn, Dallas has the perfect backdrop for your family photo session. So, if you're planning a shoot and need help deciding on the best spot, just let me know! I’d love to guide you through choosing the location that fits your family's personality and vision.

Happy photo planning!

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve (Plano)

Arbor Hills is a gorgeous 200 acre preserve with beautiful fields and small charming hills. It is my favorite spot to shoot a sunset family photoshoot, because the light is always on point and hits between the trees. It’s location in central Plano makes it really accessible to the DFW metroplex, but be warned you'll need to give yourself an extra 15-20 minutes to park as the parking lot can be overflowing on weekends.

Why it’s great for family photos: The abundant greenery and rolling hills create a picture-perfect environment, making it ideal for pictures year-round. The variety of backgrounds all along a well-trodden path ensures that kids stay busy moving throughout the photoshoot.

Adriatica Village (McKinney)

The Adriatica Village is such a hidden gem, it will make people wonder if you traveled to Europe for your family photoshoot. ;) It has gorgeous cobblestone walkways and architecture that lends itself to classy and upscale vibes. It is definitely a stand out location!

Why it’s great for family photos: The village's tranquil atmosphere and lovely landscaping make for romantic, cozy shots. It also has a lovely grassy hill perfect for getting wiggles out for little ones.

White Rock Lake (Dallas)

For families who want a more peaceful, nature-driven session, White Rock Lake is an absolute gem. The sprawling lake with its wide-open spaces and surrounding greenery offers a calm, relaxed atmosphere. The sunrises and sunsets here are incredible, especially if you want to capture that golden-hour glow. There are also charming areas like the Spillway, the boathouse, and various trails that give plenty of variety for your photos.

Why it’s great for family photos: The natural beauty of the lake, combined with the rustic vibes of the surrounding trees and walking paths, makes for timeless, classic family portraits. It's a perfect place to get that serene, dreamy look.

A.W. Perry Homestead (Carrollton)

This beautifully maintained park is near downtown Carrollton. With a tree-lined walking path, gazebo, white-washed homestead, and a large wooden barn, there are so many options for you to choose from for the background of your family photo session.

Why it’s great for family photos: The natural beauty of the park, combined with the rustic vibes of the barn makes for timeless, classic family portraits. It's a perfect place to get that southwest vibe or play in some fall leaves!

Dallas Arts District - Winspear Opera House

The Winspear Opera House is so gorgeous I can't wait to make it back again! Nestled right in the center of the city, this Fine Arts Center is surrounded by towering skyscrapers and offers a variety of settings, from beautiful green lawns to unique architecture. There’s also a lovely tree-lined promenade and playful fountains just across the street! It’s perfect for families that want an energetic vibe with a modern touch.

Why it’s great for family photos: The mix of city and nature makes for a dynamic scene. Plus, there's plenty of space for kids to run around and play, which helps capture those natural, candid moments.

Stone Creek Park (Flower Mound)

If you’re looking for something a little more off the beaten path, Stone Creek Park is a lovely spot. This quiet park features winding pathways, charming bridges, a gorgeous stone creek and lots of greenery. It’s peaceful and tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, which makes it ideal for more intimate, private family photoshoots.

Why it’s great for family photos: The park's tranquil atmosphere and lovely landscaping make for romantic, cozy shots. It’s perfect if you’re seeking a more understated, classic feel for your family portraits.
